About Us

The Southwest Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen® is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Up to 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women. The remaining net income (a minimum of 25 percent) supports the national Komen Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.

The Komen Southwest Ohio Affiliate’s services area covers 21 counties: 13 southeastern counties in Ohio, five northern counties of Kentucky, and three southwestern Indiana counties.  Thanks to the thousands of people who participate in the Susan G. Komen Greater Cincinnati Race for the Cure® and other Affiliate events each year, dedicated corporate partners and generous donors, Komen Southwest Ohio is playing a vital role in fighting breast cancer in our community.

We are proud of our contributions & making an IMPACT on breast cancer:

  • More early detection and effective treatment – Currently, about 70 percent of women 40 and older receive regular mammograms, the single most effective screening tool to find breast cancer early. Since 1990, early detection and effective treatment have resulted in a 34 percent decline in breast cancer mortality in the U.S.
  • More hope – In 1980, the 5-year relative survival rate for women diagnosed with early stage breast cancer (cancer confined to the breast) was about 74 percent. Today, that number is 99 percent.
  • More research – The federal government now devotes more than $850 million each year to breast cancer research, treatment and prevention (compared to $30 million in 1982).
  • More Survivors – Currently, there are about 3 million breast cancers survivors, the largest group of cancer survivors in the U.S.
